When considering purchasing a canvas camping tent with stove jack, there are several important factors to take into account.
- Tent Size and Capacity: Ensure the canvas hot tent with stove is spacious enough to accommodate your group size and camping gear. Consider the height of the tent, allowing you to stand comfortably inside. Consider the normal night temperature during your camping adventure. However, a person should also consider the occasional extreme temperatures for the month in which their camping trip is planned. 8x10 to 16x24 sizes available.
- Stove Compatibility: Check if the canvas hot tent with stove jack is specifically designed to accommodate a specific stove to be purchased. Look for features like stove jacks and heat-resistant materials. Ensure the stove you plan to use is suitable for the tent's size and ventilation requirements. We have 10 stove models to meet all requirements.
- Weight and Portability: If you plan on hiking to your campsite, consider the weight of the canvas hot tent with wood stove. Look for lightweight options that are easy to carry. Tents weigh between 50-100 lbs, depending on the tent size. Stoves weigh 25-100 lbs.
- Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is crucial in hot tents with stoves, especially when using the stove inside the tent. Look for hot tents with screen doors and windows to allow for air flow. We have back window, side windows, and screen door options for our winter tents with stove jacks.
- Material and Durability: Choose a tent made from durable and weather-resistant materials to withstand different conditions. Ensure the tent fabric is treated for water resistance and offers good insulation. Army Duck double-fill canvas. Strongest canvas available. The jack for a tent with wood stove is a reinforced opening or sleeve in a tent designed to accommodate a stovepipe from a portable camping stove or heater. This allows campers to use a hot tent stove inside their tent, providing warmth during cold-weather camping. The stove jack is typically made of fire-resistant material to prevent the tent fabric from melting or catching fire.
The stove pipe will be very hot when it passes through the stove jack opening going through the tent roof. Most fires in a tent are due to the hot tent stove or a hot tent with stove jack issues. Below are some factors in evaluating winter tent stove jacks.
- Material: A high-quality stove jack is made from fire-resistant materials, such as silicone-impregnated fabric or other flame-resistant materials. I test the stove jack’s quality with a torch to ensure the quality of every canvas hot tent with stove jack model. - Rich
- Reinforcement: Look for reinforcement around the stove jack area. This can include additional layers of fabric, heat-resistant coatings, or extra stitching to enhance durability and prevent wear and tear. All Wall Tent Shop canvas hot tents with stove jacks are reinforced. Buy your camping tent with stove jack with 100% confidence.
- Size and Fit: Ensure that the stove jack is appropriately sized for the stove pipe of your hot tent wood stove. It should not be snug or tight. If too snug, every time the wind blows, your stove pipe will move because the roof billows in the wind. Eventually, your pipe sections will work loose and might catch the roof on fire.
- STOVE JACK FLAP: Stove jack flap covers the stove jack opening when the stove is not in use. When operating the stove, the hot tent stove jack must be securely tied back to prevent the flap from touching the hot stove pipe. Many tent fires are a result of not tying down the stove jack flap properly.
Unless you have a heavy-duty sewing machine, I recommend you take your tent to a tent repair company to install a stove jack. Cost is normally between $75 -$100.
Below are general steps to guide you, but it's important to note that specific instructions may vary based on the type of winter tent and stove jack you have:
- Choose the Location: Select a suitable location on your tent where you want to install the stove jack. It should be a well-ventilated area and away from flammable materials. A hot tent with a stove jack should be a minimum of 30 inches from each wall of the camping tent with stove.
- Mark the Hole: Using the stove jack as a template, mark the outline of the hole you need to cut on the tent fabric. Make sure it's the appropriate size for your stove jack.
- Cut the Hole: Carefully cut out the marked area of the tent with wood stove using sharp scissors or a utility knife. Take your time to ensure clean edges and prevent fraying.
- Install the Stove Jack: Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installing the hot tent stove jack. Typically, this involves securing the stove jack around the hole using the materials provided with the tent (such as adhesive or stitching).
- Seal the Edges: To prevent water leakage and improve insulation, seal the edges of the stove jack with a suitable seam sealer or adhesive recommended by the tent and stove jack manufacturers.
- Attach the Stovepipe: Once the stove jack is securely in place, attach the stovepipe through the opening. Make sure it extends above the tent and is properly secured to the stove.
- Test for Safety: Before using the stove inside the tent, conduct a test to ensure that the stovepipe draws smoke properly and that there are no safety concerns.
- Follow Safety Guidelines: Always follow safety guidelines provided by the hot tent and stove jack manufacturers. This may include maintaining proper clearances, using a spark arrestor, and exercising caution to prevent fire hazards.
- Monitor the Stove: Keep a close eye on the stove while it's in use. Ensure that the stove is well-ventilated and monitor it to prevent overheating.
Remember to consult the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer of your winter tent with stove, as there may be variations in the installation process based on the camping tent and stove jack you have.
