About Us

A Message From Our Owner, Rich

The best emergency preparedness tents are necessary to prepare for acts of terrorism, earthquakes, storms, and disease epidemics. I live in a canvas wall tent six to seven weeks a year while hunting elk, deer, and bear in the Idaho wilderness. I designed the Wilderness series of survival tents based on my tenting experience of 50 years. All emergency tents have been thoroughly tested in the harshest weather conditions.

Tent Options

WE OFFER WILDERNESS EMERGENCY PLANNING TENTS IN 5 CONFIGURATIONS.

Links below are to help you easily find an emergency preparedness tent or off-grid tent package that is best for you.

  1. Wilderness Tent Only. No tent frame or angle kit to make a frame is included with these disaster tents.
  2. Wilderness Tent and Angle Kit. The angle kit has the tent frame joints necessary to make a tent frame using steel conduit available at any hardware store. Detailed angle kit info is at angle kits and angle kit instructions. We provide a specific list of instructions with each emergency tent.
  3. Wilderness Tent and Complete Tent FRAME.
  4. Wilderness Tent Package with Tent, Rainproof Fly/Tarp, Tent Stove, and Angle Kit.
  5. Wilderness Package with Tent, Rainproof Tarp/Fly, Tent Stove, and Complete FRAME.

We offer canvas tents, tent stoves, and other accessories. For some individuals, only a tent stove and a window stove jack plate kit is sufficient. However, most individuals buy a tent, stove, tent frame, and rainproof tarp/fly to be prepared for any type of emergency for any duration.

Many individuals have limited experience with survival tents and stoves. We will gladly answer any questions on wall tents and tent stoves to help you with your emergency preparedness planning.

We offer many different types of emergency tents. 95 percent of our customers purchased our wilderness tents and wilderness stoves.

SEWN-IN FLOOR TENTS

Some tent emergency preparedness planners prefer an off-grid tent with sewn-in floors. We offer two tents with sewn-in vinyl floors: the Selkirk Spike Tent and the Montana Canvas Outfitter.

Selkirk Spike Tent - These disaster tents come in three configurations.

  1. Tent Only
  2. Tent and Rainproof Tarp/Fly
  3. Tent, Rainproof Tarp/Fly, and Stove

Montana Outfitter with Sewn-In Floor is a traditional wall tent.

Emergency Preparedness Stoves

There are several initial decisions you must make before selecting a stove to go with your emergency tent:

Heavy vs. Lightweight Stoves

You must decide if you want heavy stoves that weigh 70 lbs, made of steel, or lightweight stoves that weigh under 40 lbs. Naturally, the most durable stove is the heavy stove with thick metal.

Wood vs. Pellet Stove - Non-Electric

Tent pellet stoves require no electricity. Individuals who have ready access to wood normally buy a wood stove. Individuals who have limited access to wood or just do not want to store wood will buy a tent pellet stove. We offer a Riley Lightweight Pellet Stove.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best type of tent for long-term tent living?

A four-season tent is mandatory. All Wall Tent Shop tents are 4-season tents. Cheap nylon tents are only 2-season tents (spring and summer). Four-season disaster tents have a stove jack hole that allows for the use of a tent stove to keep your tent warm. Canvas wall tents are best for long-term, off-grid tent use. The vertical side walls of these survival tents provide much more livable space. Bell tent design has low walls, normally 2 feet. The bell roof starts sloping upwards, normally 2 feet from the ground. Those emergency tents don’t have much usable space. Wall Tent Shop canvas wall tents have 5-foot sidewalls with an option for 6-foot walls.

What additional add-ons are available if I have uninvited guests?

We offer a cook shack option with all our wilderness canvas wall tents. The cook shack is a 9-foot extension to the front of the tent. The cook shack overlaps the tent by 1 foot and has a normal zipper door with a storm flap on the front. It has grommets and rope to secure the overlap during high winds. The cook shack matches the width of the emergency tent. On a 14’ x16’ tent, the cook shack provides 112 more square feet, 14’ wide and 8’ long. A stove jack is sewn into the cook shack if this area needs to be heated.

What additional tent accessories are recommended for extended tent living?

Accessories that Wall Tent Shop provides are shown in our Tents Accessories section. These accessories are recommended for disaster tents:

  • Tent fly/tarp to provide another moisture barrier.
  • A fly also protects the tent roof from any stove spark burn holes.
  • An extended fly, if a person wants to add a covered 8-foot section to the front.
  • Floor to help prevent water from entering emergency tents.
  • A coat rack that attaches to the frame of the off-grid tent.
