The main advantage of Dry Guy waterproofing is canvas breathability after treatment. Dry Guy products are all water based.
Small spaces between the canvas threads are created during the weaving process. These small spaces allow the canvas to naturally breathe allowing molecules to pass through the canvas. Dry Guy waterproofing spray does not seal these small spaces in canvas fabric and the canvas can still breathe.
When a person uses a wax waterproofing treatment the canvas can no longer breathe. The small spaces in the weaving process are filled with the wax treatment. If an entire canvas tent is treated with a wax treatment it would be the same as being in a synthetic tent which does not breathe.
Synthetic tents have issues with condensation dripping from the inside the tent during rain storms and when propane heaters are used. The entire roof has condensation and water drips down on you, your equipment, kitchen area and especially your sleeping bags. While camping in a synthetic tent, during constant rain or drizzle, I have had to put a poncho over my sleeping bag to keep it dry during the day and night, Rich, owner.
If less than 25 per cent of the canvas tent is being treated then either Dry Guy products or a wax treatment can be used with minimum condensation.
If treating the tent side walls a wax treatment could be used since the condensation would run down the side walls. The only drawback would be if a sportsman had a sewn in floor which would cause small puddles along the walls.
SUPERIOR RESULTS
Recommended for Gore-Tex® and all outdoor waterproof fabrics such as nylon, polyester, and canvas.
16 oz. covers 50-60 square feet per bottle.
If very large areas are to be treated the Dry Guy concentrate is more cost efficient. The concentrate has a mixture of 3 to 1.
Clean fabric if necessary. Lay garment flat and zip all zippers if required. Hold bottle 6-12 inches from fabric. Apply evenly to outside of fabric. Inside of fabric is not required. Check to ensure no areas have been missed. All fabric dry times are different. Allow to dry fully before use.
