What are wall tent angle kits?

They are the connectors that allow you to connect 1” electrical metal tubing (EMT) to make an internal wall tent steel frame. These tent fittings connect the legs and rafters to side eave poles and to the ridge poles.

How many angles are required?

Angle kits for tent frames are based on the number of rafters required for a specific size of tent. For example, a 10’ x 12’ tent would normally have 3 rafters requiring a 3-rafter angle kit. Each rafter requires 3 angles: 1 on each side of the frame and 1 at the ridge. The wall tent angle kit would consist of 9 angles/tent connectors. A general rule is to have a rafter every 4-5 feet, depending on snow loads. In areas of high snow, always discuss rafter requirements with a sales agent. Wall Tent Shop always recommends more rafters in snowy conditions. If leaving a tent up over winter, rafters every 2 feet are recommended. 2-foot spacing doesn’t guarantee your tent roof won’t collapse from snow loads.

Where can I buy 1” electrical metal tubing (EMT) to make a tent frame?

EMT is readily available at all hardware stores. The 1” stands for the inside diameter of the metal tubing. EMT works great for wall tent angle kits and frames, as the tubing is made of steel and is very rigid.

How do I cut the 1 “ EMT to the correct size for my frame?

Hack saws, band saws, and circular saws are the most common tools to use when cutting EMT. Whatever type of saw is used, use safety glasses and heavy leather gloves to help prevent injuries. Extreme caution and safety must be exercised whenever any saw is used.

How is the degree of angle determined for my tent?

The tent manufacturer can tell you what degree of angle is required for angle kits for tent frames. Most tent manufacturers sell the wall tent angle kit to make a frame, and those angles should work perfectly. If you are not purchasing tent connectors from the tent manufacturer, you will need to provide the measurements of the tent width and slope. The slope is your rafter length, top center of the ridge to where the roof and wall intersect. For smaller tents, angles for tent fittings are normally 110 degrees at the roof and 125 degrees at the walls. 12’ x14’ and larger tents normally have 120 degrees at both the ridge and walls. How much can a person save by making a tent frame?

Typical savings are $200-$400, depending on the size of the tent. Factors to consider when deciding to buy or make a frame: Conduit costs can vary greatly depending on your location. Do you have the time to buy conduit, haul it home, and take the 2-4 hours required to make a frame? How soon do you need the frame?

How readily available are tent frames if I do not want to make a frame?

The majority of older 8 x 1 0, 10 x 12, 12 x 14 and 14 x 17 Montana Tents take a 110 degree angle at the peak and 125 degree angles at the eaves. This has changed with the new Montana Tents.

If you do not know the degree of angle your tent requires, please measure your Slope (B) and Tent Width (C) so we can determine the proper degree of angle needed. View angle kit measuring instructions.

Montana angles are 1 3/8" galvanized steel with support braces for additional strength and durability.

Purchasing angle kits and then purchasing 1” inside diameter, thin walled, electrical conduit at a local hardware store is the most economical approach to purchasing an internal frame. Internal frame shipping charges are very high due to the weight of an internal frame. Typical frame savings using an angle kit on a 12x14 internal frame is $200.

Strongly recommend you read Tent Frame Information and Recommendations before you build your frame or set up your tent. A maximum distance of 6' is recommended between rafters. More than 6' causes a sag in the roof and significantly reduces snow load carrying capacity.

10" Sleeves. Sleeves are used when the vehicle you are transporting your frame in is too short for your rafters. Cut the rafters in half and when setting up your frame , the sleeve connects the 2 piece rafters.

Leg Supports. Primarily used to attach tent frame legs to a platform. Tent legs can easily fall off a platform during high winds.
