CANVAS TENT with stove jack can be in roof or side walls.  I do not recommend a stove jack in the side wall or end wall due to numerous drawbacks.

It should be noted that a canvas tent with stove jack in side wall or end wall requires an adjustable elbow on the stove and an adjustable elbow on the outside of the tent.  This second elbow allows the stove pipe to go straight up for a better draft. Only straight pipe can be used for stove pipe going out a side wall. Nesting stove pipe cannot be used.

Additionally, there must be metal support on the outside of the canvas tent with stove jack to support the stove pipe. Otherwise, your stove pipe will become loose and smoke will get in your tent.

Again, the major drawback with a stove jack in a canvas tent going out a wall is that you cannot use nesting pipe.  You must use straight pipe when you use an elbow to turn the stove pipe upwards on the outside of your tent.  Remember, nesting pipe has a different size of pipe for each pipe section.

If you decide to put your stove jack in a canvas tent in a wall I recommend you use metal screws to attach the stove pipe to the stove to prevent the stove pipe coming loose at the stove.

STOVE PIPE ABOVE RIDGE OF CANVAS TENT WITH STOVE JACK: It is best to have your stove pipe long enough to extend 6 inches or more above the tent ridge.

Having the stove pipe above the tent ridge allows the wind coming from any direction to blow sparks away from the tent roof reducing the likelihood of spark holes being burnt in the roof.

If possible, try to position your canvas tent with stove jack downwind from prevailing winds to reduce the possibility of sparks landing on the roof. In this manner, winds will blow sparks away from your tent roof instead of blowing sparks across your roof.

A  tarp fly is strongly recommended regardless of where you have your stove jack on your canvas tent. The fly will prevent sparks from burning holes in the roof.   A fly will extend the life of your canvas tent many years.

We have many models of canvas tents with stove jack.  The most popular is the wilderness tent.  All of the wilderness canvas tents have a stove jack in the roof.

Regardless of which canvas tent with stove jack you have I recommend a fire mat under your stove.  The fire mat provides a fire proof area around your stove.  The fire mat extends normally 6 inches past the end of your stove and approximately 12 inches to the front.  Fire mat is especially necessary in the event any embers or wood accidentally falls out the stove door when opened.
