Recommended for individuals who prefer a lighter weight tent
or a tent to pack in.
Saves approximately 40% in weight from a standard 10.1
oz Montana Canvas wall tent.
Blend tents lighter weight makes the larger tents much easier to transport,
set-up and take down.
Roof is made of 10 oz Water, Mildew & Fire Treated: This
tent roof will only burn if there is a continuous flame against the canvas.
If you remove the flame source the tent will stop burning. Canvas tent roof
has a paraffin water, mildew, fire treatment. The heavy paraffin treatment
makes this canvas roof very water, mildew and fire resistant.
Ends and sidewalls are made of Relite a synthetic water/mildew.fire
resistant material.
Relite wall colors available: white, tan or light green. Specify
color when ordering relite tent. Tan will be ordered if
customer states no preference
Relite: Polyester based fabric is extremely lightweight.
Soft, pliable, easy to clean. Tear strength and longevity better than canvas.
Water, mildew and fire retardant.

STANDARD CHARACTERISTICS
Stove jack with a weather flap in your choice of 4", 5", or
6" opening. This stove jack is designed to withstand the extremely
high temperatures associated with the use of a single wall stove
pipe. Stove jack is located on the left side in the roof as you are
looking at the tent.
Full length ridge pole reinforcement with extra layer of canvas and additional
reinforcement at the gable ends.
Eaves have 18 oz truck vinyl with 1/4" rope sewn between two layers
of canvas doubled stitched. This reinforcement is to ensure extra
strength at all grommet locations.
Vinyl at top door for reinforcement.
Walls are a full five feet in height.
76" doors are secured by a heavy duty trouble-free YKK zipper
with a generous weather flap that is secured by Fastex side release
buckles. So easy to use. In mild weather, simply buckle the doors open
and enjoy the great outdoors!
The bottom of the tent is reinforced with poly webbing and utilizes
grommets. Grommets allow you to stake your tent from the in side
or outside.
The poly sod cloth that is sewn onto the tent bottom extends a generous
12" beyond the tent floor to provide a weather-tight seal.
Compatible with any terrain and weather condition, the sod cloth
can be folded inside or extended outside the assembled tent.
There is a 6" ridge hole at each of ridge for inserting
lodge pole. When using an internal frame, a flap covers the holes.
Relite colors available: white, tan or light green. Specify
color when ordering relite tent. Tan will be
ordered if color not specified.
A DVD that shows you how to set up and care for your tent.

Sewn In Tent Floor: If ordering a tent with a sewn in floor, I recommend
putting two doors on your tent, especially if using an internal frame system.
The two doors will save you set up time for the tent and frame. And more importantly,
another exit in the event of a tent fire since you have a sewn in floor. Nylon
stake loops. Stove location on floor has a zipper for rollback of relite or
vinyl floor. Blend tents have Relite floors, tan or white, or white 10 oz laminated
vinyl, customer preference. Specify
floor color when ordering - if not specified tan will be ordered.
I
would recommend a tan relite floor as it will not show dirt as
the white relite.

Next business day shipping for Montana Canvas angles.
Purchasing angle kits and
then purchasing 1 electrical conduit
at a local hardware store is the most economical approach to purchasing
an internal wall tent frame. Internal wall tent frame shipping
charges are very high due to the weight of an internal frame. Call
or email if you have trouble understanding angle kit instructions.
Typical savings using an angle kit on a steel 12x14 internal frame
is $140.00 and $300-400 for an aluminum frame.
Frames made of conduit are not as
strong as regular steel frames. A maximum distance of 6' is recommended
between rafters. More than 6' causes a sag in the roof and significantly
reduces snow load carrying capacity. If you expect
heavy snow loads add one additional rafter length to your joint
angle kit purchase. The additional rafter significantly increases the
strength of your internal frame.
If you want an adjustable angle I recommend my adjustable
steel angle kit with wing nuts. The steel adjustable horizontal angle
has a 5" overlap
with the horizontal frame poles vs a Montana Canvas aluminum angle overlap
of only 1" on the horizontal frame poles. The Montana 1" overlap
on horizontal frame poles makes setting up a tent frame much more difficult
and takes longer. Additionally, there is no stop/tit in the middle of
Montana Canvas horizontal angles. This ineffective design allows one
horizontal pole to force the other horizontal pole completely out of
the aluminum angle when setting up the frame. If you ever had to set
up a tent frame with Montana Canvas aluminum angles at night it would
be a nightmare! Hopefully you can understand why I do not recommend the
Montana Canvas angle for all the problems it creates when setting up
a tent frame during day or at night.
Recommendation:Click for steel adjustable
and non-adjustable angle
kit for cost comparison. The difference in cost for a fixed angle
is about 25% less.

In summary, this popular style Montana Canvas wall tent is
for people who like the traditional canvas look but need a tent that is lighter
weight than an all canvas wall tent. The roof is made out of 10 oz. treated
canvas and the sides and end walls are made out of our own relite material.
The canvas roof helps with moisture build up on the inside of the tent ceiling.
The canvas roof gives you added protection when using a wood stove with a stove
jack through the roof. This tent is constructed with the same quality workmanship
as other Montana Canvas products.
Relite used in the blend tent walls. For many outdoor camping
purposes, Relite is the perfect tent fabric choice. This unique polyester-based
fabric is extremely lightweight, which makes it ideal for environmentally friendly,
low-impact camping. Soft, pliable, and easy to clean, Relite offers a tear
strength and longevity even better than canvas. Because Relite is so highly
durable and more resistant to destructive ultraviolet rays than other commonly
used materials such as nylon, it's the choice of many outdoor enthusiasts.
The Relite and the Canvas used in the construction of Montana Canvas tents
are fire retardant, and meet the high specification standards set by the California
Fire Marshall.
General Information:
Determining Size of Canvas Tent: If you can't decide on what size of tent you need I suggest you chalk out the tent sizes you are considering on your driveway. Visualize or actually place items in your tent chalk box. Note: The first 7 feet of your tent wall should be reserved for a stove and stand off area.
Zipper Door vs Tie Door: A zippered door keeps warm air in and cold air out better than tie doors. If you use a tent in cold weather I would recommend a zippered door.
Metal Zipper vs Neoprene Zipper: Most tentmakers use YKK #10 neoprene zippers. A metal zipper freezes more easily than neoprene. Also metal zippers that are bent become unserviceable. However, some tentmakers use metal zippers as a selling point but you have to decide which is best for you.
Stove Inside of Tent: Never place a stove on a canvas or synthetic floor for safety. Most factory floors have a cut out or zippered area for the stove.
Actual Size of Tent: Most tents made by tentmakers are not made to the exact size ordered. For example a 12'x14' might actually be 11'8"x 14'6" because rolls of canvas can differ by three or four inches.
Tent Life Expectancy: A good quality tent should last the typical person 20-30 years. Leaving the tent set up for long periods of time (months) in the sun, without a fly, and storing the tent wet are the two main factors that affect tent life expectancy.
Tent Maintenance:
Zipper Maintenance: Always have zipper unzipped when placing/removing tent over frame to prevent too much stress on zipper. As your tent roof shrinks the tent will fit tighter on the frame and increase stress on the door zipper.
Recommendation: Cut rafters down as necessary to prevent unnecessary stress on zipper. You do not want to be camping in cold weather and have an unserviceable zipper.
Mildew: If you have mildew on your tent mix 2 cups of bleach in a 5 gallon bucket. Wash only the area with mildew. A tent with mildew will leak at the mildew spot regardless if treated with bleach.
Washing Tent: Use only mild detergent like "Woollite". Use a hose and scrub lightly.
Storage: Never store a damp or wet tent. Always let the tent dry naturally. Your tent will get mildew if stored wet regardless if you have a mildew treated tent.
Cleaning Tent: Always brush off caked on dirt or mud (let mud dry) with a soft brush.
UV Rays: Long exposure to the sun's UV
rays will damage all canvas tents. A fly is recommended to prevent UV damage
if you set up your tent 2-3 weeks or longer annually. A tent fly also keeps
your tent roof clean, snow slides off the tent better and acts as another
weather barrier.
Leaking Seams: Use Canvak tent sealer to stop leaking seams or purchase a fly.
Stoves or Lanterns: Keep stoves, propane cook stoves and lanterns away from canvas.
Set up Location: Be aware of which trees emit resins and avoid setting up under these types of trees.
MONTANA CANVAS TENT RIDGE HEIGHTS:
Montana Canvas tent ridge
heights are approximately 1 foot higher on tent sizes 12x14 and
larger. The taller ridge height, with the sharper roof angle, helps rain
flow off the roof quicker and snow to be removed from the roof easier.
The higher ridge height also provides more headroom inside the tent along
the sidewalls because the angle of the roof is sharper.
The only drawback to the Montana Canvas higher ridge height is that the Montana
Canvas tents are harder to heat. The higher the ridge, the more heat is at/near
the ridge line. It is the same principle as if you were trying to heat a house
with an 8' ceiling vs a 9' ceiling.
Montana Canvas is a quality tent but you should be aware
of the advantages and disadvantages of the higher ridge line.
Tent Frame on a Platform: If you plan on placing your tent frame and tent on a platform I have some recommendations.
Building the platform: Do not build the platform until you receive the tent and measure it. Most tents are either smaller or larger than the tent stated dimensions.
Platform size: Build the platform to the same width as the frame. In this way the rain water run downs the roof over the eaves and prevents any water from puddling on the platform and coming inside the tent. Also place the tent frame flush with the back of the platform to prevent rain water from coming in from the back.
Rain water gap in platform: If you have a porch area and use plywood, cut a 1/2" gap in the plywood immediately in front of the tent. This gap will prevent rain water from coming in the front of the tent. If using 2x6's for the porch insure the 2x6's run parallel to the front of the tent and allow a 1/2" gap between boards immediately in front of the tent.
Platform sill/perimeter board: If
using an internal frame, place a 2x4 along the perimeter of the tent area on
the platform. Drill a hole in the sill board for the tent frame legs. In this
way the wall tent frame can't move/slide on the smooth platform surface during
high winds. It is also probably a good idea to caulk under the sill boards
to prevent any water from coming in from the sides.
Sod cloth board: Place a 1/4" shim
on each corner and screw/nail a 2x6 board even with the top of the platform
along the back and 2 sides. Insert the sod cloth in the space between the 2x6
and platform. The sod cloth now will not go upward in raining, windy conditions
preventing any wind or rain from coming in the tent.
Guy ropes: Install eyebolts near the bottom of the platform on the sides and back. Tie your guy ropes to the eyebolts. In this procedure, you will keep the ropes out of your way instead of having the ropes being at a 45º from your eaves.
Fly: Tents on platforms are usually
set up for long periods of time and a fly is recommended. A fly protects the
tent from destructive UV rays, provides another moisture barrier, prevents
any stove sparks from burning small hole in our tent roof, and also keeps
your roof clean form the tree sap, etc.
Floor: I prefer a loose waterproof floor as it allows the use of a perimeter sill board. The waterproof floor is definitely necessary if there is any possibility that rain water will get inside your tent.
Carpet: You can use indoor/outdoor carpet and keep it dry if you have an effective rain perimeter sill board and rain gap at the front of your tent. Carpets are much more comfortable to walk on than vinyl or wood floors. However, you must have a fireproof material under your stove and 2' around your stove. Carpets are very flammable and extreme caution must be used. Use a carpet at your own risk.
Snow loads: Some individuals want
to leave their tents up in the winter. There is no internal frame that can
withstand heavy snow loads. I know outfitters that have had to leave tents
in the back country over the winter because they had to leave quickly with
their clients due to heavy snowstorms to make it back to their road base camps
before the horse trails became impassable. Their tents were torn and frames
destroyed when the outfitters tried to retrieve their gear in the spring.
Hopefully, my recommendations for wall tents frames on a platform will be of some use
